February Student of the Month--Abigail

Abigail is our February Student of the Month.

Abigail is a hard worker.  She studies and works hard in all her subjects.  She always does her best.  Abigail never stops trying.  Her homework is always done; and she is always respectful, quiet, and attentive in class.  She is a kind and sweet young lady who shows Christian Character to all around her.  We are very proud of Abigail and all she has accomplished this year.  Keep up the great work, Abigail.

Mini Winter Games

BCA had a Snow Day on Monday.  Everyone enjoyed our little break and TONS of snow! There was so much snow out there that there were still inches and inches left when we got back to school on Tuesday.  Our class brought extra clothes and warm things to play outside, and we had a team competition which we called the Mini Winter Games.

There were several events including largest snow ball, highest snow tower, snowball throwing, and sled relays.  After a victory by the "Fire-Breathing Dragons", we got a special treat.  One of our super class moms brought in homemade hot chocolate with whipped cream for everyone! (There was even enough for seconds which the boys really enjoyed!)

Carrie and Tory enjoying their hot chocolate.

Miss Leonard handing out whipped cream for Ava's hot chocolate.

Sis Shelley dishing up the yumminess!

And this is a video of one of the sled relays! We had so much fun.  Everyone came in wet, cold, and tired, but very happy!  I have to admit, it was a little hard to concentrate on academic subjects for the rest of the day! We would love to do this again :).  Let it SNOW!

Science, Science, Everywhere!

Our class has been working very hard on our Science Projects! We wrote reports, practiced speeches, etc.  Each student got to pick their topic and got to either do an experiment or research their topic.

Abigail with her project.

Josiah asked, "Does Music really Effect You?"

Charity looked at the effect of caffeine on living things.

Last Friday we all took our projects to the gymnasium and presented in the 2014 Science Fair--Innovations.  We were all a little nervous but were able to present well for the judges and show them what we learned.
Anais presents her project on vision.

Faith informs her judge on Meteorites.

Here is Gabriel with his project on Static Electricity.

Michael made magnets with electricity!

Our class did a great job and we had several winners at the fair!
Here is Anais winning 1st place and Tory winning 2nd place.  Good Job, girls!

Carrie also won 2nd place!

And Joey won BEST OF SHOW!! WOW, Joey! Great Job!
Check out the video below to hear part of his award winning speech!

Congratulations to Joey and everyone in our class.  You all did a great job and learned a lot!

Hard at work on book publications!

Our class has been working SOOOOOO hard on our books! That's right! Books! Everyone has written and illustrated their own story.  We started by designing our own publishing company and assigning everyone as editors and art directors.  We then signed contracts with Miss Leonard as the publisher's representative.  Next....Write the stories and draw the pictures.  We have such a variety of creativity in our classroom.  Stories ranged from Non-fiction Children's books, to Autobiographies, to a beautifully illustrated story about a little elephant that learns to listen to his mother.   Check out some of our progress below!

Writing an award winning tale with the publishers contract close at hand.

Tory working on the second draft of her story.

Anais using the window to make perfectly straight lines on her final copy.

Abigail working on her book kit.

Bethany working on her Candy Land story illustrations.

Michael worked so hard and even stayed hours after school to finish his colorful and active illustrations.  He knows each character inside-out, right down to who is left-handed.

Carrie finished her own book and then lent a hand to some of her classmates who needed help.

Making last minute additions to her drawings, Ava is almost finished in this picture! (Too bad I don't catch a video of her victory dance when she was finally finished!!)

Sharon thinking hard!

Faith worked right to the last minute, and with the help of some of her friends and their outlining efforts, she finished just in time!

The most exciting moment--and I think our cheer rocked the whole school--putting our kits in the box to be mailed!!

They are in the hands of the UPS now, but we are very excited to get them back and have our book party to proudly show them off to friends and family!

Volume

The grade 5s have been studying volume. We explored a little by constructing a cubic meter with newspaper. Then we estimated how many would fit in out classroom, and measured to check. Congrats to Jack who guessed the closest!
