Field trip--Student Bloggers

Yesterday the whole 5/6 class went on a field trip to Britannia Mine Museum.  We left at 8:40 and got there at 10:00.  When we got there, we were a little bit early, so we got to look around.  After a few minutes, our program started.  We met a man named Michael, and he was our guide.  First, we started at the museum.  Then, we went to see a video.  After that, we all went to put our backpacks in a place where they wouldn't get lost.  Then, we went on a train into the mine.

Michael showed us how they would mine a long time ago.  He showed us how big the mines actually were.  When we came out of the mine, there was a huge whistle which was used for emergencies only.  Michael was only allowed to blow it once to show us.  Then we went through a shed that had all sorts of cool core samples.  Then we went . . .

Into the mill!!  Michael did a cool experiment then we all got to look around.  The mill was so tall that there was 393 steps going to  the top floor!!  Then we went  for lunch, and then we went gold panning!  I got a few gems and a lot of fool's gold.  I also got 4 flecks of gold!  Then it was time to go home.

Yesterday, on November 26,2013 the 5/6 class drove all the way up to  Britannia Mine Museum.  Ava, Faith, Emily, Jack, Gabe, and I rode  in Sis. Leah's van.  Since the car trip would take about 1 hour and 45 minutes because of rush hour traffic, we listened to Adventures in Odyssey in the van, and we took pictures of each other and scenery.

When we got to Britannia Mine Museum, we met up with the rest of the class, and then we saw our tour guide.  He was called Michael, and he told us the rules and let us go to the gift shop for a while.  Then we looked at an exhibit that showed us a little bit of the rocks that they mined at the mines.
We then waked up these steps to a place where were had to hop in a train to get to the underground mines.  When we got there, Michael told us ta little bit of what the miners used to mine and how they did it.  He even showed us how to use the tools.  They were super loud.  After that, he showed us where the workers went to go to work.  Michael also showed us how to get the minerals out of the rocks.  We saw all the mine managers that had fun the mine.

Then we had lunch at 12:30.  After lunch we gold panned.  We had to take off our jackets and stick our hands in freezing cold water.  A lot of us found fool's gold, gold , iron, amethysts, and quartz.  Then we drove the long journey back to school.  On the way back, we had got cocoa, steamed milk, and apple cider.  We arrived back at 3:00.
